Jacob’s Ladder Part 2

Archaeoastronomy

As Referenced in Compton’s Encyclopedia

Archaeoastronomy is an interdisciplinary study that blends archaeology, anthropology, mythology, and astronomy. Sometimes referred to as historical astronomy, this field explores how ancient cultures aligned their structures, rituals, and mythologies with the movement of celestial bodies.

Its core tenet is this: the heavens declare a rising dawn of truth.

This study also touches upon the prophetic Tabernacle of Testimony, described in Scripture as a heavenly structure that must one day be opened (cf. Revelation 15:5). Understanding its significance may offer insights into spiritual battle lines—divinely ordained strategies for confronting evil on earth.

Mysteries of God to Wipe Out Wickedness

A striking phrase inscribed on ancient trumpets of ambush declares:

Mysteries of God to wipe out wickedness.”

These words suggest that hidden divine knowledge is meant to dismantle systems of corruption and restore righteousness. Such mystery lies at the heart of God’s plan revealed through both heavenly signs and earthly covenants.

Jacob’s Ladder: The Vision and the Covenant

To grasp this mystery, we must revisit Jacob’s dream, recorded in Genesis 28:10–17:

“And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. And, behold, the LORD stood above it…” (Genesis 28:12–13, KJV)

In this vision, God reaffirms the Abrahamic covenant to Jacob. He promises:

  • A land for his descendants
  • A nation that will spread across all directions
  • A global blessing through his seed

Jacob, awestruck, declares:

“Surely the LORD is in this place, and I knew it not… This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” (v. 16–17)

Qumran’s Covenant Consciousness

The Qumran community, responsible for the Dead Sea Scrolls, placed special emphasis on this covenant. Before battle, their leaders would declare:

“Blessed is the God of Israel, who guards loving-kindness for His covenant and the appointed times of salvation for the people He redeems.”1

This underscores their belief in a cosmic war—one tied not only to land but to the divine order written in the skies. The 1QM. War Scroll refers to it as a war with Gods and men, Our steps with their steps. We are reminded that the Book of Revelation speaks of a war in heavens that is supposed to come to the earth when Satan is cast down.

Revealed Knowledge and the Lost Word

In many traditions, particularly initiatory ones, this sacred knowledge was protected by oaths of secrecy—sometimes on pain of death. Over time, the true meaning was feared lost.

Even modern-day Israel has largely forgotten the deeper implications of Jacob’s vision, which connects the covenant with the luminaries of heaven (cf. Isaiah 34:4, Daniel 8:10).

Within Masonic teachings, Jacob’s Ladder is said to be the point to which:

“Every Mason’s mind should be continually directed.”2

Yet even in Masonry, much of the knowledge has faded. The central mystery is now referred to as “The Lost Word.”

Our Mission: Recover the Pattern

To fulfill this sacred mission, we must:

  • Return to the source
  • Study what was once known
  • Gather ancient and prophetic insight

Only then can the “people of the saints of the covenant, learned in the statutes, enlightened in understanding” (cf. Daniel 11:32–33) rise and take their appointed stand.

Angels at the Altar: The Celestial Temple

The Great Pyramid is sometimes viewed as both a sign and an altar (cf. Isaiah 19:19). In this celestial temple, the altar becomes the strategic center where divine decisions are made—where battles begin.

Manly Hall stated the Great Pyramid was built alter wise and battlement wise. That is to say the star men are deemed as angels offering sacrifices and also fighting a war in heaven that is to come to the earth.

To wage war, one must first decide where to place it. Where are the battle lines drawn?

War Scroll Insights: The Battle Divisions

From the Qumran War Scroll (1QM):

“There shall be three gates to a tower… Upon all the shields of the tower soldiers they shall write:”

  • Michael
  • Gabriel
  • Sariel
  • Raphael

“Michael and Gabriel on the right; Raphael and Sariel on the left.”3

These angelic names signal divine oversight of the battle, with heavenly beings commanding and guarding the flanks. Fragmentary lines hint at their role:

“They shall establish an ambush for the battle line…”

The Vision of Jacob and the Heavenly War

At first glance, the idea of a “star man” or a celestial being representing the Messiah may seem speculative. Yet, when one considers the profound intelligence and order that God has embedded in the heavens, it becomes evident that the heavenly narrative is intentional—a message written by the very finger of God.

This links to the Vision of Jacob mentioned in 4Q537 (Dead Sea Scrolls), a revelation Israel has yet to fully understand. The vision hints at Israel’s ultimate awakening and readiness for a spiritual war:

“They are being asked to fight a war with gods and men, our step with their steps.”
1QM, War Scroll

The challenge? Israel does not yet know how to fight this war.

The Temple in Heaven and the Return of the Tribes

According to Revelation 15:5:

“Then I looked, and the temple—the Tabernacle of the Covenant Law in heaven—was opened.”

This moment signals a turning point. When the heavenly temple is opened, the dispersed tribes of Israel will return. Not only to be restored spiritually and physically—but to join the battle on earth, aligned with heavenly hosts.

“The LORD will go forth and fight… as in the day of battle.”Zechariah 14:3

As the earthly and heavenly armies align, the long-foretold conflict unfolds—one that is fought in both realms: with “our steps in their steps,” just as the War Scroll describes.
